In much of Africa, reliable refrigeration is a luxury afforded by the wealthy few. Public markets lack adequate cold storage infrastructure, resulting in high rates of food spoilage, financial losses for vendors, and food insecurity for consumers.

Frigo Africa is committed to providing dependable, affordable, and sustainable cold room storage for community markets (marchés public) across Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Community markets are central to daily life for millions of people, with small-scale traders, vendors, and farmers selling essential goods directly to consumers.

Frigo Africa’s solar-powered cold rooms enable local vendors to preserve perishable goods, including meat, fish, fresh produce, dairy, and the like. In doing so, we will extend products’ shelf life, reduce food waste, ensure access to nutrient-rich food during times of scarcity, improve overall food safety, and ultimately, help increase vendor incomes.
